Although this sonnet implies the wrath of the Father (&quot;forgive them&quot;),  this reality is brought to the fore in future sonnets. Praise the Savior for His substitutionary wrath-bearing on our behalf! As Toplady said, &quot;Payment God cannot twice demand: first at my bleeding Surety&#039;s hand, and then again at mine.&quot;</description>

If not, one might mistakenly (I hope) think that Dr. Carson has fallen into the Mel Gibson camp of focusing on His suffering at the hands of sinful men.</description>
