On May 10, 2004, Personal Trainer was born. According to the first entry the blog had an existence prior to that (I think it was on the church website), but with the advent of sites like Typepad, it soon took on a life of its own. Though there have been breaks now and then, the blog has enjoyed a good run (833 posts & 108,000+ views) and I have had a lot of fun doing it. However, as all good things must come to an end, so too must Personal Trainer. But never fear, a phoenix is going to rise out of the ashes, and quickly!
To that end, I am pleased to welcome you to our new blog, ex vilis cathedra (from the cheap seats). I say “our” for two reasons. First, as a reminder that this blog is an extension of the ministry of New Hope Bible Church in Pataskala, Ohio. Second, because I am going to be joined by other contributors on a regular basis. The author of Ecclesiastes argues that two are better than one, and that is just as true in the blog world as it is on the imagined journey the ancient author envisions. I’d like to introduce you to the first addition to our little blogging world–Champ Thornton.
Champ has been an acquaintance for many years now and is becoming a good friend in the ministry. He has served as a pastor and is currently an author for a Christian publishing company. While we used to serve in different regions of the country, we are now privileged to worship in the same faith community. Champ is willing to apply his sharp theological skills and creative writing abilities to a joint-blogging endeavor and I am more than happy to have a companion. I think our readers will benefit greatly!
We hope you like the blog title. It’s a nice play on words…we speak “ex cathedra” but not from the “bema” seat…instead we speak from the “vilis” seat–the cheap, worthless, or common seat. We’re the guys in the nose bleed section of the Coliseum of Christendom shouting at the gladiators below. But not yelling audibly of course, we’re liveblogging the contests armed with our laptops. We welcome you to join the virtual games.

(First Comment Of The Blog)
Looks good! Off to a pretty good start. Just remember to keep it somewhat elementary for chaps like me.
Also I’m going to be needing at least 3 levels of spell checking, grammer advice, a cuss word censor and probably a confirmation prompt that says something like “Are you SURE you want to say that?”
Thanks!
So…
does this mean no more long hiatus periods? (how do you plural ‘hiatus’ – hiatii??)
Will do the RSS thing to keep up.

Yes, Don. I hope that is exactly one of the results of a helping hand(s). I also will probably be more energized with someone to keep me accountable and bounce ideas off. Plus, the quality of the blog is going to rise considerable with Champ’s contributions.
Oh no! A theology blog! Well, maybe if it’s a really good, really interesting one, I might read it.
Best wishes on your new launch!
the blog is dead! long live the blog!
also, let’s see if Don can spare one of those undocumented hiatiians he’s got tidying up his comments to help out AndyB.
